ABOUT MONIFA

  New York City based Celebrity Makeup Artist Monifa Mortis, has been working in the fashion and entertainment industry for over 20 years. In that time, she has become a prominent name in the makeup artist community. With an acute eye for detail and an impeccable painter’s hand, Monifa has had the opportunity to create for some of the industry’s biggest stars like Queen Latifah, Gabrielle Union, Ciara, Alicia Keys, Jill Scott, and Common. Monifa has an extensive resume that reflects a career working with every complexion, genre and medium of makeup. She has also received the spotlight in career-highlighting articles in beauty publications like Essence Magazine and Sophisticate's Black Hair, as well as industry publications; OnMakeup Magazine, Make-Up Artist Magazine, Swerv Magazine and Latinista Magazine.

     In addition to freelancing, Monifa is an educator and makes appearances as a featured guest speaker for industry events, makeup schools and education platforms like, Make-Up Designory (MUD) school of New York, Crystal Wright's PYP Workshops, The Power of Beauty Conference in Trinidad and The Bennett Career Institute in Washington, D.C.. She has presented highly acclaimed training seminars at beauty schools and makeup unions throughout the U.S., Canada & The Caribbean, as well as hosting her own renowned independent productions like the Master Ethnic Makeup Class (MEMC) and Five Star Beauty Workshops.

   Monifa was honored with Essence Magazine's "Best In Beauty" Celebrity Makeup Artist Award. She was bestowed their Certificate of Expertise recognizing her creative contributions on various Essence covers and published features for over 15 years. She was also ranked as #8 in Essence Magazine's Top Celebrity Makeup Artists in the Beauty Biz.

   A graduate of The Laboratory Institute of Merchandising in Manhattan, New York where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Fashion Marketing and was appointed an award of recognition for academic excellence by the National Dean’s List Association. She is also a graduate of the Paris Fashion Institute where she studied Fashion Marketing and placed in the top 10% of her class and was awarded the Certificate of High Merit.
